A Sitcom About Call Centres! NBC Outsourced
NBC will have sitcom set in a call centre, called Outsourced. A call centre!
Even after watching this preview, I still can't believe it.
I loved Scrubs, Yes Minister, The Office and, especially, Parks and Recreation. Shows I could hysterically relate to. However, I don't know about a show set in a call centre. I mean, working in a call centre sucks, big time! Imagine if Honeymooners was set on a bus or in the sewers. Even in Taxi, the only person "working" was Louis de Palma, the dispatcher. Most of the show was about the drivers on break, not working.
Still, call centres are part of our lives (even if you haven't had the misfortune of working in 20 like me). I try to avoid them like the plague by communicating online as much as possible, but even I have to call one once in a while.
I look forwards to laughing, and an extra dose of sympathy from friends and family who will have a better idea of how I earned a meager earning all those years.

Video Sunglasses (video)
In her latest Geek Brief, Cali says something about first "permeable" video camera glasses. Not sure what that means. I already have similar video glasses. They're OK, but legally, you're supposed to tell people when you are filming them. So in less I want to spend my time blurring people's faces à la Google Streetview, they are of dubious use.
Diggnation Caused Me to Buy ice Cream
I dare you to listen to Alex and Kevin talk about discontinued Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavours and not buy some next time you are at the store. Forget the lame Coors Light promo. The ice cream got me. For the first time in my life, I bought some Ben and Jerry's ice cream (despite the fact that by being in Vermont, the company is responsible for global warming).
I agree with Kevin, cashews in ice cream don't mix. I opted for the 1 million flavours.
More from Cali Lewis about the 50th anniversary of the laser.

Stop Global Warming: Move to a Green Metropolis
David Owen, in his book, Green Metropolis, argues convincingly that living in a compact city is the most effective way to prevent global warming.
I'm reading the book on my iPhone, my laptop and my desktop thanks to the Kindle store (link on the left; Disclosure: I make a small commission if you buy something from Amazon.com immediately after clicking on the link). The digital download is fast and easy and Amazon.com, although prices are in US dollars, doesn't charge sale tax (Kobobooks.com does). You can download the book to all your devices without paying extra.
People seem to care about global warming, but are they really ready to do something about it? So save the planet, move to New York City, Montreal or Vancouver (and buy digital books).
As Owen mentions in his book, New York City isn't a hippie environmental paradise. There is plenty of waist. And, although local nuclear and imported hydro are major sources, gas and coal are also used to power the city. But even if you drive a Prius and have solar panels on your bungalow, you will never match the typical New Yorker who, when not walking, takes the subway to and from his smallish apartment.
Obviously, if the New Yorker spends his vacation on the other side of the world instead of in his backyard mowing the lawn and fixing the deck, he'll probably end up matching the carbon foot print of the Vermonter. But if he spends it in Vermont, he wins (and so does the planet). So if you live in Vermont, you better be employed servicing New York tourists. Otherwise, global warming is your fault.
